Chemical Sciences Division senior faculty scientist Jeffrey Long has been elected to the American Philosophical Society’s 2026 class of new members. Election to the nation’s oldest scholarly society recognizes extraordinary accomplishments across the sciences and humanities.

Long develops inorganic materials and molecules with potential applications in gas storage, molecular separations, catalysis, conductivity, and magnetism. He is also the C. Judson King Distinguished Professor at UC Berkeley and directs the Baker Hughes Institute for Decarbonization Materials. Long was one of 43 scholars elected to the Society this year.
